Task
The objectives of the Trust are to research, maintain and promote all aspects of Rolls-Royce’s heritage and assimilated companies. They needed an independent, easily navigational and accessible resource for educators, students, enthusiasts and researchers alike.
The website would serve to drive enthusiasm for the trust’s activities, individually promote the different branch sites and help to drive membership. Previously, RRHT could only be found via the Rolls Royce website in the sub-menu of the ‘About us’ and was often overlooked.
Rolls Royce has an enormous audio and visual resource which was being under-utilised to drive information, provide research materials and create excitement for all user types.
Solution
It was important to give the home page design different touch points to appeal to the different types of user. We also used a more exciting colour palette and brought to light some of the extensive library of material that RRHT have. The home page had to have a visual that epitomized both heritage and the engineering excellence that is a big part of the Rolls Royce brand.
Navigation was geared towards how different areas met the needs of the user. Menu headings were more enticing e.g. ‘Get involved’ ‘Learn & Explore, ‘What’s On’. Learn & Explore becomes an important area for involvement having specific areas for Key Stages in education as well as an extensive reference library. The regional centres were given a point of entry, and What’s On contained space for Special Exhibitions and events.
With new areas for an archive, a special member’s area which gave users access to interact by subscribing, posting your own pics, how to get involved in volunteering and donation and bequests, this site is now answering the user’s needs and driving visitors.
